I am an artist, poet, and ecologist based in Asheville, North Carolina.
I am most moved by joy—that bones-deep, colorful aliveness which tells us that it is worth being here. I create to find that joy for myself, and to share it with others. I believe that this sort of deep joy fuels internal and international revolutions and creates a world which we can all be glad to call home.
My art is inspired by my work as an ecologist and environmental educator, as well as my experience as a transgender man, community organizer, and farmer. My education includes mentorship in Asheville’s community gardens, a Bachelors of Science in Studio Art and Ecology from UNC Asheville, and the writings of Octavia Butler, Ursula K. Le Guin, adrienne maree brown, Mary Oliver, Peter S. Beagle, and many others.
I work in a variety of media, including watercolor, gouache, oils, and pastel. From small studies of the environment to large abstract portraits, I aim to celebrate the many ways that we can joyfully connect with ourselves, with others, and with the world around us.
